This Week’s Article: Life After a Revelation from God

I love talking to God. There’s nothing better than having a Father in heaven who understands your every need before you speak.

He loves us, cares for us, and brings us through every situation with His grace.

And when He responds, the world changes right before our eyes.

This week’s article is a continuation from What It’s Like to Have an Encounter with God. I wanted to share what life is like afterwards because the change He makes inside of us is profound! It’s like being pulled to the other side of the curtain.

After my revelation, I started seeing how the Holy Spirit moved through situations to fulfill God’s will. Moves that had all the missing pieces, job transitions that worked perfectly, new friendships and more were all humble, expected… and yet they provided everything I couldn’t get on my own and happened in ways that blew my mind!

All of it came from following the Lord’s word.

I want to encourage you to ask God for a response to your deepest prayers! Whatever you’re in need of, request that He share His will with you. He is a good God, and His plans are good too.

High expectations and God-expectations go hand in hand… and He always puts a twist on things.

For example, this week’s article is about a beautiful historic town in Southern France. I didn’t know what I was in for when we booked the trip—I just knew that France is France.

But Perpignan, the town we visited, is not the Mediterranean paradise you expect, with marble buildings and palm trees.

It’s red and bright, the buildings made with brick, the streets of pink marble. The Catalonian flag sways from the rooftops while the River Têt slowly moves along.

It’s a sleepy town, a quiet town… and one where I felt the presence of God as I stood with a coffee cup in hand.

Comfort filled the air while we walked. Something about a cloudy, breezy morning in tiny alleyways makes you feel like you’re sitting in your living room.

It’s not at all what you expect… and beautiful through and through.

That’s what I love about Quiet Travel—God knows what we need and He knows the best way to give it to us.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters

He is always blessing us, filling our lives with everything we need to follow His will. And His will is pleasing… especially when we test and approve it.

I was nervous and praying to Jesus, when I heard His voice say “Then leave this to Me.” In the following 20 seconds, a nun approached my window! We shared our love for our favorite Christian radio station, and then we went on our ways. It was a beautiful moment that made me feel right inside, remembering that Jesus truly is with us at all times.

Which got me thinking about sanctification — when God transforms us into the likeness of Christ.

A while back, I visited the Montserrat Mountain, a stunning natural landscape and home to the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey. Hiking up is so much fun, and on my adventure I noticed that God was doing something behind the scenes.

At the beginning of a season of isolation, the first thing we realize is that the things we love don’t give us the same joy. The pastimes aren’t as amusing, the TV shows aren’t as touching.

But God is good, and everything that He removes, He replaces. Hiking up Montserrat, with the shining sun and the staggering views, I realized that beauty, perspective, and good old outdoor fun is all part of God’s toolbox to lay a new foundation.

Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things… And the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:8-9, NIV

One of the Lord’s names is Jehovah Rapha, the God Who Heals, and He is always available to us.

Sometimes He moves us away from things we used to know so that we can spend time with Him. Other times, He takes us out to have a good time, providing the money, the right company, and the right circumstances, if only so that we believe that He is a good Father.

However He does it, the most important thing to hold in our hearts is that God is always working, always healing, and always loving.

If you’re looking for a way to spend time with God, have fun, and get some great exercise on your trip to Spain, the Montserrat Mountain is a wonderful place to begin.

We hear it all the time in church—that Jesus should be at the center of our connections, our friendships, our dating lives, our marriages. But what does that actually look like, and how does one get there?

The answer is simpler than we expect. It comes together in prayer, in your free time, and in doing the things that you would do with anyone else.

Except the entire time, the Lord is beside you—because you asked Him to be there.

This week’s article is about the most romantic places I found in Barcelona: historic alleyways glowing under lantern light, jazz drifting through the streets at sunset, and beaches along the Mediterranean where the evenings are long.

But the beautiful thing is this:

I found these places while I was out with God.

One evening on Rambla de Catalunya, I watched the sun settle over the city while people gathered outside of cafés, laughing over tapas and dessert. In the distance, the Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus stood above Barcelona, watching over it all.

And the peace that was on me was like nothing I can describe.

We put Jesus first because He carries the burdens that no one else can.

When you feel lonely, He provides people to comfort you.

When you need encouragement, He gives you community.

And when your heart feels weary, He reminds you that you are already loved.

Somewhere between the Gothic Quarter’s glowing alleyways, the music echoing off ancient Roman walls, and the sea breeze rolling through Platja de la Ribera, I remembered that.

And it is one of the most romantic feelings.

Our newest article is about Quiet Travel in Andorra, a small, beautiful mountain country on the border of France and Spain.

I had the chance to visit on a lovely fall day. The scene was breathtaking: clouds rested on the side of the mountain while leaves fell and fog covered the city.

As I explored, the Lord showed me a part of His nature, and it’s been on my heart ever since—so I wanted to share it with you.

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

John 4:23, NIV

In the book of John, Jesus spoke to a woman at a well, who shared her concern about where people were supposed to worship. She said that the rule of the Jews was to go to Jerusalem, while her people continued the ancestral tradition.

His response was that a day would come when places wouldn’t be the foundation of worship; Spirit would be.

In Andorra, I hadn’t planned a special way to give thanks to God. I was simply trying to be grateful. But from the moment I stepped onto the street, I felt small, safe, and surrounded by power—all while unable to wrap my mind around its majesty.

Isn’t that a metaphor for the Presence of God?

God is omnipresent. He’s everywhere, He sees everything. Sometimes that’s easy to forget about.

But in places like this, mountains look upon a city and all that happens in it. They’re massive, they never move, and the city could not exist without it.

It’s the same with the Lord.

His constant, eternal Presence, His love, joy and peace—we exist because of Him. And though we’re not perfect, He doesn’t give up on us. We’re ever connected, ever covered… ever loved.

God met me in my room when I couldn’t quiet my mind. Life is so beautiful—and sometimes, that beauty is overwhelming. When you’re following your dreams and doing what you’ve always wanted to do, you change so much inside. For me, that change was noisy.

One day, my mind was so full of worry that I wanted to break down. There was too much chaos, too many questions. My head was spinning.

I thought the walk back to normalcy would be a long one, but I had faith in my therapy. God had provided it right when I needed it, and it did wonders in the past. So I jumped back in with high expectations.

But it didn’t last long. Just when I thought I was on a road to recovery, the Lord Himself stepped in, and just like that, my mind was quiet again.

No more questions. No more chaos. Instead, I heard the sounds of people on the street and birds in the trees. My world was beautiful again; but this time it was holy, too.

That’s the beautiful thing about God: He’s always right on time. It only takes a snap of His fingers, a flick of His wrists to solve your problems.

His kindness can’t be missed either. God’s intervention didn’t require me to fight. He met me right where I was: in the comfort of my room, where I felt safe and cozy.

Because that’s what a loving God does: He meets us where we are, without reservation, without requirements. He just appears.

Spread the Good News with a New Accessory

One afternoon years ago, I found myself confused, angry, and full of grief. I didn’t know where my life was headed, as so many of us have, and I needed to hear from God.

I was walking to a bus stop, head down and full of thoughts. As I lifted my eyes, I saw a beautiful message on the back of a T-shirt. It reminded me that my life was important... and right then, I knew that things would get better.

There are so many people who need to be reminded that they’re loved, so I created the Jesus Loves You hat.

It’s a small reminder of the greatest truth—that He died and rose again for you and me.

It soothes aches and pains, it calms your mind—and it comes just when you think chaos is going to win.

When my life looked uncertain, God came to my rescue.

So many things were changing, from my understanding of love to the country I was in. It isn’t travel if there isn’t a little reflection within—but this was a top to bottom transformation.

And we can’t help but to wonder what’s going on. As we get closer to God, existential questions are everywhere. Am I following my purpose? Am I treating people well? Does what I want truly serve the Lord? They’re big. And they make you worry.

But no problem is too much for Him to handle.

As I was riding through the Rhineland, peace washed over me. Its rolling hills, its little towns; its cobblestone roads and ringing church bells. People lived such beautiful lives. And while I was there with them, the Holy Spirit reassured me that everything was going to be okay.

The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, He refreshes my soul.

In the German countryside, there is nothing but green pastures as far as the eye can see. I would gaze at them from my hotel window in the mornings and evenings; I sat in the grass once on a cool day. The light danced off of it, the trees swayed in the breeze.

And even though I wasn’t doing very much, my mind changed. I went from worrying about life to feeling like I was having the most intimate experience of Germany.

Because that’s the kind of God we serve. He holds our hands through changes and sits us down in peaceful places. He promises us rest and restoration, then puts the pieces of our souls back together on the other side of the world.

Because He loves us—and that’s all.

I wanted the whole thing—flowers, long walks, all the romcom moments. It had to be everything I imagined.

While I was in Spain, my heart was more open (and I was more expectant) than I had ever been in my life.

But over the months, I began to realize that something else was more important. I felt it when I looked up at the sky. I felt it when my friends smiled at me. It was God.

And He had a plan for my heart.

Spain is a beautiful place. There’s so much to explore. While I was out and about, the Lord would sprinkle things in my spirit—little bits of wisdom that kept changing how I viewed the world. I would see parakeets flying in the sky, green as the leaves they lived under, and think about how a handful of birds brought color and life to an entire city.

I would walk under orange trees whose fruit sat on the branches even in the cold months, and an interesting thought would occur to me. Fruit might be showing, but that doesn’t mean it’s time for the harvest—a lesson about patience.

He was always with me, always teaching me.

One day I realized that I didn’t want to date. I didn’t want romance. I just wanted more of Him.

Without us truly noticing, before it ever occurs to us, God takes our loneliness away. He teaches us how to be happy in our own company. He washes away our old memories. In what feels like a second, we become free. We become whole.

In the streets of Spain, the Lord renewed my heart.

Reach out to Him, and He’ll renew yours too—slowly, steadily, with all the love that you desire.
